Process vs Result

A few years ago, I had a conversation with a dear friend about whether she cares more about the process or the result. The discussion was in Korean, so I probably missed some nuance, but I remember her expressing how torn she felt between living in the moment and striving toward her dreams. That inner tug-of-war made it hard for her to fully commit to her vision. However, she’s still on the path.

That question stuck with me: Is the process more important, or the result?

For me, they’re not separate. I see them as intertwined. Sometimes we’re so focused on a specific outcome that we forget the process is filled with tiny results too.

When I started my daily plank routine, I could barely hold a plank for 20 seconds. Two minutes felt impossible. But day by day, I got stronger. Now, I’m even considering one-arm planks—something I wouldn’t have dreamt of before. My original goal was visible abs. But the real results came through the process: building endurance, reshaping my mindset, and proving to myself that I’m capable of more than I thought.

I think writing this blog is much the same. Consistency is still the hardest part. But with every post, I learn a bit more about how to create something meaningful. Every effort, even the small or imperfect ones, moves me closer to the vision I aspire to.

Chasing a dream often means having to give up ease, comfort, or spontaneity in the moment. But I’ve come to believe that when you truly want something, the effort doesn’t feel like a sacrifice. It becomes a choice you’re glad to make.

So maybe it’s not about choosing between process or result.

Maybe the process is the result.

Adelina Minnigalieva brought a damp cloth that smelled of coffee as a prop. I love how dreamy the picture turned out.
