Sometimes it’s hard to look at life without believing the world is doomed. We seem to consume anything from news to materialistic things, without really acknowledging the consequences. Countries are in wars, while others seem to be on the brink of participating in one. The emergence of AI worries a lot, as the speed of progress is one that we never had before.
However, a recent conversation with a friend gave me a new perspective on how to approach all this.
Being the Change We Want
I still believe knowledge is essential and that information from different sources is key when building one’s opinion. However, my friend said that he rather focuses on the good by creating a platform for indie creators, instead of pointing out the bad of AI creations.
Instead of inflicting fear about the current situation, we should be the change we want for this world. The human brain seems to remember bad incidents much more easily, so news portals will focus on those more than good ones. We shouldn’t fall into that trap as well when sharing our thoughts with others.
Factfulness

The book Factfulness by Hans Rosling is a great read for learning how to distinguish facts from fear. While some might argue that he is too optimistic about the world, I still think the Factfulness 10 Rules of Thumb help better navigate the stream of information we receive each day.
Deliverer of Good News
I recently stumbled upon the YouTuber, Sam Bentley. He shares good news, such as India doubling its tiger population in a decade, or using underwater speakers to help revive coral reefs.
Focusing on the good is not about ignoring the bad, but rather giving people hope that there is still beauty worth sharing and that we are capable of making things better.
