The Search for Perfection

Perfection is a word I like to dwell on. Does something perfect even exist? And if it does, is it even desirable? There is a saying: “Perfectionism is the enemy of progress.” To some, striving for perfection might be a way to show love for one’s craft. However, perfectionism can hold us back from sharing what we love, as we believe it’s never quite complete. I think embracing imperfection is what creates beauty. Something that is ‘perfect’ must have been already created—nothing new comes out of it. After writing my last blog post, I was worried about what to write next. What if I can’t come up with something good enough to write the next week or the week after? Then the thought ‘just writing something is better than nothing’ came up—and I wrote this poem

The Search for Perfection

I seek it every day
To be perfect
There must be a way.

I spend hours building my craft
But alas,
It never feels right as I draft.

How come perfection is so hard to reach?
What rules do I have to breach?
For I want to be perfect.

Though I am unsure what being perfect even means
I keep moving in the direction
Of the beauty named Perfection

I stand outdoors behind a red and beige pinwheel, wearing a red and white gingham dress with a black square neckline. My dark curly hair frames my face, and I wear pearl earrings. I gaze softly into the camera and hold up my left hand as green foliage blurs in the background. A soft, dreamy portrait capturing a vintage-inspired summer look.

Seeing life as a playful exploration rather than a mission for perfection makes life so much more awe-inspiring. This imperfect life we are living is quite perfect, in my opinion.
